Location: Igreja de São Domingos, Largo São Domingos, Lisbon, Portugal.
The small square in front of the Igreja São Domingos, the Largo de São Domingos, is a popular meeting area for the Portuguese African population. The Igreja São Domingos has always had a strong African connection as traditionally, the priest originated from Africa and was able to support new immigrants during their transition into Portuguese society.
This church is emblematic of its connection with the Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos, in Brazil, a confraternity established by enslaved and freed Africans that played a crucial role in preserving Afro-Brazilian religious and cultural traditions.
